Hot on the heels of reviewing the Smok Master Kit, it is time to review the Smok Master Box Kit. The performance brief for these two devices is quite similar but there are enough differences where the typical adult vapor consumer may have a strong preference. Vaping.com carries an extensive collection of Smok Vape Kits because the devil is in the small details.
The Smok Master Box Kit has a different form factor than other Novo devices. It is a square and short vape, competing with “Nano” style pod devices. This does not mean there is a downgrade in hardware or quality versus the Smok Novo Master Kit. It simply means the battery has been slotted off to the side rather than placed in a vertical column like a typical vape pen.
In fact, the shape is so different that it would appear to be targeting the Vaporesso XROS Nano, which has nearly identical specifications.

Pros and Cons Smok Novo Master Box
Pros: The square shape is more compact than the standard Smok Novo Master Kit, has a cool lanyard, airflow control and a 30W boost mode. It comes with new pod designs and is compatible with the Novo 2 and 3 series.
Cons: The Smok Novo Master Box is draw-activation only and lacks the fire button of the standard Master kit. It also lacks a screen and is surprisingly heavy for its size.
Smok Novo Master Box Review
The Smok Novo Master Box is a square shaped refillable pod device. It offers backwards compatibility with old Novo 2 and 3 pods but arrives with a pair of modern top-fill designs. The first thing you notice when fitting this small pod kit in your hand is its surprising heft. But it is also tiny. With a 1000mAh battery and a 30W boost mode, this is very versatile little device. If you are not concerned about the lack of a fire button, it can do everything that the regular Smok Novo Master Kit can.
Smok Novo Master Box Battery
The Smok Novo Master Box Kit easily fits in the palm of your hand but packs a 1000mAh battery. This is necessary if you are running boost mode with the lower-resistance pod options that it arrives with.
The type-C USB charging port is mounted on the side rather than the base, just below the lone button. Monitoring the battery is a bit easier than with an old Novo.
The color cues are the same but the light is much larger and less open for interpretation in the bright sun.
Smok Novo Master Box Air Flow
The stepless airflow control on the Smok Novo Master Box Kit feels very substantial. It has a nice tactile feel and moves smoothly along its track. In fact, the dial on the Smok Novo 4 and 5 feel almost chintzy in comparison. It offers a relatively wide range of air flow options with a short amount of travel. This gives this tiny pod device the flexibility to take full advantage of its two power settings.
Smok Novo Master Box Boost Mode
The Smok Novo Master Box Kit has a Standard Mode and a 30W Boost Mode. With disposable vapes now offer this feature, it represents a key upgrade. The device not only feels like it is built to last but has enough to control to allow you to adapt it to different styles of e-liquids and salt nic juices.
You switch between the two modes by clicking a button above the air flow control. If it flashes green, you have entered standard mode. A red light represents boost mode. The light then turns off to avoid confusion, as this same display also provides the battery life read out after you take a puff.
Smok Novo Master Box Pods
In theory, the new Smok Novo Master Box Pod has an incredible leak-proof design. It does not account for user the error the first time. The nose of the nic salt bottle fits perfectly in the red color-coded fill port.
But beware if you are used to squeezing every drop into an air bubble filled Novo 3 pod. There is no fail safe for overfilling and juice will pour out the air hole on the opposite side. E-liquid capacity remains the same at 2ml.
The 0.6ohm and 0.7ohm integrated coils have larger wicking ports than the Novo 2 and Nov 3 pods. Between more juice hitting coils, slightly lower resistance and the optional boost mode, the Smok Novo Master Box has the capability to burn a lot more e-liquid than a Novo 2 or 3.
Smok Novo Master Box Appearance
The Smok Novo Master Box stands out for its form factor. It also stands out for its heft. It tips the scales at 81.3g. The standard Novo Master Kit weighs 64g and a Novo 3 weighs barely twice as much 44g. But it is a lot shorter. At just 76.3mm, it is 30mm shorter than the 107.3mm Novo Master.
The Novo Master Box has hanging hole for a lanyard to help you disperse this increased weight across your shoulders.
It looks very basic compared to the flashy OLED screen on a Smok Novo 5 and lacks adjustable wattage. But when it comes down to flavor density and vapor production, it is easily a match for a collection of siblings that are very comparable in wattage output.
The same light that changes to red when entering Boost Mode also keeps you updated on battery life.
Both Novo Master kits have stuck to very basic and adult-friendly liveries. The slightly lighter Leather Series comes in Matte Black, White, Black Gun Metal, Cyan, Pale Pink, Purple Pink, and Cyan Blue.
The Regular Series colors are Red Black, Green Black, Pink Black, Silver Laser, Carbon Fiber, and Black Carbon Fiber. The cryptic “Thugs in Suits” description Smok applied to the standard Smok Master Kit has been ditched.
In this case, the classy and restrained Smok Novo Master Box is described as a “Master of Creativity”. A very interesting choice for such a business-like and compact vape.
Smok Novo Master Box Colors
It is interesting that the Regular Series gets fewer colors than the Leather Series. There are no cobra patterns available currently.
Smok Novo Master Regular Series Colors
- Red Black
- Green Black
- Pink Black
- Silver Laser
- Carbon Fiber
- Black Carbon Fiber
Smok Novo Master Box Leather Series Colors
- Matte Black
- White
- Black Gun Metal
- Cyan
- Pale Pink
- Purple Pink
- Cyan Blue
Final Thoughts Smok Novo Master Box Kit
If you do not care about a fire button, the Smok Novo Master Box is a very convenient shape and has the same performance and compatibility of the Smok Novo Master. It is pared down compared to the other Novo designs though, even with Boost Mode and a clever airflow switch.
With a USB-C charging port, the Master Box Kit can serve as a perfect replacement for an older Novo 2 or Novo 3 as well. It is much heavier but not quite as long. But if you want adjustable wattage and aren’t wed to the old pod designs, the Smok Novo 4 and Smok Novo 5 are certainly flashier.
The pod device it is targeting is the Vaporesso XROS Nano, but it is so close in shape that it also makes a perfect disposable vape alternative. The Vaporesso XROS Nano is nearly identical, down to the airflow placement, 1000mAh battery, 2ml pod capacity and backwards compatibility. The Nano is the smaller device. We will have no choice to compare these head-to-head soon. Until then, both are most assuredly excellent vaping options.
