Are Nicotine Salts Safe?

Nicotine salts (nic salts for short) have risen in popularity over the last several years. You may have heard of them before, or are considering using them yourself, but still wondering how to use them and whether or not they’re safe.

Here, we’ll give you a rundown on everything you need to know about this special vape juice. Learn more about how to use nic salts, what they actually are, and how to use them.

What Are Nicotine Salts?

Nicotine salts are a type of vape juice that comes in high nicotine strengths. Whether you’ve heard them called nicotine salts, nic salts or salt nics - these are all names for the same thing. While high in nicotine compared to other e-liquids, nic salts offer a smooth throat hit compared to other types of e-liquid. This is thanks to its neutral pH.

Nic salts come in a 50/50 PG/VG blend, making them thinner than other, high VG e-liquids. They’re compatible in lower-powered, above-ohm vapes like pod systems and vape pens. However, it’s always best to check your device is suitable for nic salts before using them, as some vape pen and pod systems are built for sub-ohm vaping.

Are Nic Salts Safe to Use?

Nicotine salts are known to be just as safe to use as other types of e-liquid.1 They typically come with higher nicotine strengths than regular 50/50 e-liquids, but while nicotine is highly addictive, the NHS state that it’s still ‘relatively harmless’.2 Especially when compared to the many other toxic chemicals found in smoking, like tar and carbon monoxide.2 In fact, nicotine vaping is substantially less harmful than continuing to smoke cigarettes - up to 95% less harmful in fact.3&4 All this considered, you should still aim to become vape-free after using vaping to stop smoking.5 It’s ultimately healthier not to smoke or vape.5

How to Use Nic Salts

You use nic salts in the same way you’d use any other e-liquid. If you’re using a rechargeable vape, simply pour the vape juice into your pod or vape tank, - making sure to prime the coil - adjust any wattage and temperature settings accordingly, and you’re ready to vape!

Exactly how you use nic salt e-liquid will vary depending on your device and vaping preferences. If you’re using nic salts in a rechargeable vape, make sure it’s compatible with your device, and adjust your wattage settings to those recommended for the coil and the e-liquid.

Nic salts are even easier to use in disposable vapes. With disposables, you’ll typically only need to take them out of the packaging and they’re ready to start using. Simply draw on the device to start vaping the nic salt.

Why Should I Use Nic Salts?

Nic salts might be suited to you for a few different reasons. Firstly, they offer a high nicotine strength without a harsh throat hit - great for those who enjoy more nicotine but prefer less of a throat hit.

What’s more, using nicotine salts can be more discrete compared to vaping with other types of devices. They produce subtle vapour, and are typically suitable for smaller devices than other, sub-ohm e-liquids built for bigger box mods.
