Professor Stanton Glantz, ardent opponent of vaping, has engaged in the first interview (that I know of) by a vaping supporter.

Brent Stafford questioned Glantz over a 10 minute Skype session for his RegulatorWatch.com show, and the video (part 1) is available on Youtube

Glantz's cites three main reasons for his opposition to vaping:

He believes they are 40 to 60% safer than smoking which, he contends, is not very safe considering the dangers of smoking.

He believes most smokers do not make the full transition, instead becoming "dual users"

He believes vaping is attracting "gigantic numbers of kids who probably would never pick up a cigarette but are initiating nicotine use with e-cigarettes and then transitioning to cigarettes later"

Citing the CDC surveys, Monitoring the future data, and work by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration. He states that the research and conclusions drawn are unbiased and that it is  positively demonstrated that e-cigarettes are keeping people smoking and introducing large numbers of teens to nicotine.

He also described the work by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) as "rhetoric coming out of England".

It was the RCP which published the landmark "Smoking and Health" report in 1962. It caused a media storm in both the United Kingdom and America, sold over 80,000 copies and forced John F. Kennedy to create an Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General. In 1964 the Surgeon General Luther Terry finally published the Committee's Smoking and Health report and changed the tobacco world forever.

But 6 years even prior to the RCP report, Sir Richard Doll had published the first evidence of a link smoking and disease from the British Doctor's Survey. The intervening 8 years between this work and the Surgeon General's report saw a great debate and confusion over what, retrospectively, can be seen as a clear link.

You can just imagine those casting doubt over that evidence describing it as:  "rhetoric coming out of England".

I have no interest in watching part 2 of this interview as this man is on another planet, he is very confused and so focused on Tobacco damage (which he is correct in pursuing) he believes that vaping falls into the same category, the media interviewing (and pandering) to these ostriches cause more harm than good. This interview (what I saw in part 1) on the other hand has exposed the rubbish that is spouted from so called "Experts" and well done on that!

The kids of today can vape zero nicotine to fit in to satisfy the pressure from their peers, without feeling left out.

The amount of take-up to smoking from somebody who has only vaped in the past would be so minuscule it would not be worth recording. I would love to see a youngster trying a cigarette for the first time after only vaping. We have an opportunity to embrace this technology, however the FDA in the USA and the TPD in Europe is hell bent on stopping it. It's obviously all about the $$$$ £££££ or Euro's which are slowly draining from coming into central government.

In Europe we are being forced to remove 30ml , 50ml or 100ml bottles for customers, instead they have to purchase 10ml bottles that most would get through in a day or less. This would generate over 3.5x the amount of plastic waste. I was going to contact the Green party about this shocking waste of plastic material only to find out that ALL 5 of their MEP's voted FOR the TPD!! - Simply unbelievable and comical if it was not so serious.

I have NEVER smoked one cigarette in my life, yet I own and run an very successful E Liquid business, it was never for the money (as I already own a very successful electronics company) I did it when I met my partner who was a smoker and I quickly learned what E Cigarettes and vaping was all about, seeing how she has now not smoked some 22,000 cigarettes over the past 3 years and feels a hundred times better is enough of a reward for me. Daily we help people go from 60 a day to zero. The thanks we get makes me proud to be in this exciting life extending and vibrant business. My own father I believe died prematurely because of excessive smoking during the war

I hear daily from smokers (who snub vaping) saying "you don't know the long term dangers of those" whilst they continue to inhale yet more smoke from their cigarette. Well one thing for sure is that 50% of them WILL DIE from smoking directly because of those cigarettes, over the past 10 years (since vaping appeared) there has not been one case of a vaper death, or any reports of effects caused by vaping, it's only good news. Smoking on the other hand kills somebody in Europe EVERY 45 seconds (yes over 2 people have died in Europe since you started to read this comment, around the world it would be nearer 20 people) yet we don't bat an eyelid about that.

I am confused as to why the pharmaceutical companies have not released any data on vaping as well? They would have spent hundreds of thousands if not millions in trying to discredit it (I believe that one pharmaceutical company apparently pressed hard for even more stringent laws on the TPD) after all vaping cuts directly into their profits from Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) such as Gum, Patches, Sprays & Pills, to them and their shareholders Vaping is the enemy. To me it is the savour and if I was involved in selling consumer health products (be it a company or government) would support what ever helped my customers/citizens and not chase profits.

Perhaps somebody from the pharmaceutical companies could release some data for us???

    The reasons stated:

Is the above a belief or a scientific study?
Anyone who has the credentials with the title of "professor (science related)" should hang their head in shame for being so one sided when addressing an unknown area of controversy. I pity the poor students who might be expecting a decent grade from this narrow minded example of academia. The University of California, San Francisco should take note.
