Latest trends in E-cigarette use and associations with smoking and smoking cessation
England has by far the most detailed monitoring of e-cigarette and smoking trends of any country with the Smoking Toolkit Study (www.smokinginengland.info). Data from monthly household surveys allow close tracking of key information such as smoking prevalence, rates of stopping smoking, use of different methods of stopping (including e-cigarettes), use of nicotine products (including e-cigarettes) in continuing smokers and in never smokers and recent and long-term ex-smokers.
These data can answer many of the questions about the impact e-cigarettes are having for the better or worse. England is a particularly important country to have such data because it currently is regulating e-cigarettes as a consumer product but in the context of a strong tobacco control context.
